Authors I’d Love to Meet

Hi everyone!

As readers, I’m sure we all have certain authors that we would love to meet one day! I thought it’d be fun to share with you all a few that make my very long list. Here we go!

Leigh Bardugo

I feel that by now you all should probably know that Leigh (I say her first name as if I know her personally…hahaha) is my favorite author. I love her books with every fiber of my being. It would be a dream come true to meet the queen…the legend! I know she is going on tour for Ninth House in October and I am REALLY hoping that she comes to a city near me. I’m crossing all my fingers and toes!

Jay Kristoff

I’m obsessed with The Illuminae Files! That series is a a roller coaster of emotions and I enjoyed every second of it. Of course I would love to get my books signed by him, but honestly I would be happy just to be in his presence. I think he is such a cool person. I love his dry sense of humor and how blunt he is. I live for his Twitter feed and IG stories.

Courtney Summers

Not going to lie, my number one reason for wanting to meet her is because she watches Supernatural. Not to be dramatic or anything, but that show means everything to me. Courtney Summers and I could have a giant discussion about Dean Winchester and my life would be made. Also, yes we could talk about her AMAZING books. That would be cool too!

Casey McQuiston

Red, White and Royal Blue has taken the book community by storm this year. Everyone has read it and everyone pretty much loves it…including me. I would love to meet Casey & tell them how much Alex’s story truly means to me!

Brigid Kemmerer

I’m cheating a little bit here. I have actually met Brigid before BUT I had not read any of her books then. Now that I have read Letters to the Lost and A Curse So Dark and Lonely, it would be pretty awesome to get to chat with her about her writing. I’d also try my hardest to get any scoop on A Heart So Fierce and Broken because I am literally dying to know what is going to happen in that book!

What authors would you love to meet? Who have you met already?

Reading Rush Wrap Up

Hi everyone!

So last week was the Reading Rush (formally known as Booktubeathon)! It was my first year participating and I had a great time! I thought that today I would share with you all what I managed to read in the last seven days!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephan Chbosky

Challenges:
-Read a book with 5 or more words in the title
-Read and then watch a book to movie adaptation
-Read an authors first book

My rating: ★★

Everyone and their mother has read this book so I won’t spend much time on it. Unfortunately I did not like it at all. I originally gave it three stars, but after thinking about it I’m dropping it down to a two star read. My main problem with this book was how the tough issues were handled. In this 200 and something page book there was content warnings for suicide, rape, domestic violence, abortion, sexual abuse, etc. I don’t feel like any those things were talked about enough. It seems like they were just mentioned but then brushed off. Chbosky didn’t take the time to fully address how serious each topic was. That really bothered me. I know some may not agree with this and that’s totally okay. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins

Challenges:
-Read a book you meant to read last year
-Read a book in the same place the entire time

My rating: ★★★

I actually had no plans to read this book during the Reading Rush but after Perks was a flop I needed something fun. Prince Charming (formally titled Royals) was really cute! Some good ole YA fluff was just what I needed. The romance was super adorable. Who doesn’t love a fake dating story? I can’t wait to pick up the next book in this series! I’ve heard some pretty great things about it!

The Raging Ones by Krista and Becca Ritchie

Challenges:
-Read a book with purple on the cover

My rating: ★★★★★

I reread this in preparation for the sequel that comes out in August. I still absolutely love this story and I want more people to read it. Here is my mini review from when I read The Raging Ones last year…

The three main characters stole my heart. The friendship between them is incredible. It started out a little rocky but it evolved into such a strong bond. From the start I had a feeling there was going to be a love triangle between them, but I was extremely happy when that didn’t happen. There is a romance in this book though & it’s seriously the cutest!

This world is so interesting. It’s a place where the sky is purple and it’s always snowy…that just sounds so pretty. Everyone knows the exact day they are going to die and they are separated into three groups (Babes, Fast Trackers and Influentials) depending on when their death day is. The authors do a fantastic job at setting up all that info.

Court, Franny and Mykal dodged their death days, which is supposed to be impossible. The *connection* that they share is so fascinating. It’s something that is kind of a mystery throughout the whole book.

There were many twists & turns in this book but the ending was definitely something I didn’t see coming. I never even thought about it as an option. I can’t wait for the next book…I need to know what happens ASAP!!

Memento by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Challenges:
-Read a book with a non human main character

My rating: ★★★★★

This is the prequel novella to The Illuminae Files! I loved this so much, it was fantastic. In just 82 pages the authors made me fall in love with new characters and then broke my heart in two. I don’t know how Amie & Jay do this, but they are magical. I loved getting to see how & why AIDAN is the way it(?) is. I literally just finished this trilogy a few months ago, but I’m already itching for a reread!

So there it is! I competed all seven challenge with just four books! I am pretty happy with that. Next year I really want to do better at planning so Ican actually read seven books in seven days!

Let me know how your Readig Rush went!

Illuminae review

Gemina review

What a finale! I said in my Gemina review that this story was going to go out with a bang & yep, it sure did!

I cannot stress this enough, if you can listen to the audiobook for this trilogy…DO IT! You won’t be disappointed. They are unlike anything I have ever heard. The audio adds to the thrill!

If you have read my other reviews for The Illuminae Files, you’ll know I love the multimedia format! I won’t blabber on about it again though. Just know that I am in awe of the work that Amie & Jay put into these books. They are literal perfection.

In Obsidio we see all of our favorites…Kady, Ezra, Hanna, Nik, Ella & AIDAN! I’ve become very attached to these characters & I love them all so much. We were also introduced to new characters. Asha Grant, who is Kady’s cousin & Rhys Lindstrom, who is a past love interest of Asha’s. At first I was unsure whether it was necessary to add them to the last book, but I ended up really liking them. I do wish we would have met them sooner, but I can totally see why they were introduced when they were. Their story is crucial to the plot.

The suspense was turned up to a 15. Forget being on the edge of my seat, I fell off & was in the floor. There were a few scenes that literally left me in shock. I had to stop reading and take a breath because they were so intense. My emotions were on that roller coaster yet again. With the non stop action & this being the conclusion, I was in constant fear for all the characters.

While I liked the ending, I can see why some people wouldn’t. I’m not going to spoil anything but I will say…it all wrapped up a lot different than I expected it to.

Overall, Obsidio was a fantastic comclusion. It’s safe to say that this trilogy is one of my all time favorites! I’m sad to see it end, but it’s one that I will definitely reread over and over again!

Goodreads TBR #2

This is a series where every other month I share 5-10 books I’ve recently added to my *to read* shelf on Goodreads!

As always, if you’d like more information about any of these books, I have linked all of their Goodreads pages.

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

In a manor by the sea, twelve sisters are cursed.

This book follows Annaleigh who’s had four sisters die, each death more tragic than the last. There are whispers that her family is cursed by the gods. After seeing disturbing ghostly visions, Annaleigh believes the deaths weren’t an accident. She goes on a mission to uncover truth.

This book sounds super creepy & I am 100% here for it. It’s release date is August 6!

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff

Y’all vampires are making a comeback! Yes, that’s right…VAMPIRES!

I’m pretty sure (although I could be wrong) I’ve heard Jay say that his vampires are vicious! So definitely no sparkling here. Honestly, someone just give me this book already. September 2020 is way too long of a wait!

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.

I’m not so patiently waiting for my audiobook hold to come through for this book! I am ready to see what all the hype is about.

The Final Six by Alexandra Monir

When Leo, an Italian championship swimmer, and Naomi, a science genius from California, are two of the twenty-four teens drafted into the International Space Training Camp, their lives are forever altered. After erratic climate change has made Earth a dangerous place to live, the fate of the population rests on the shoulders of the final six who will be scouting a new planet. Intense training.

The Final Six is definitely giving me Skyward & The Raging Ones vibes, which I love. SciFi isn’t usually my thing, but lately it’s all I’ve wanted to read! Can’t wait to dive into this story.

Fear of Missing Out by Kate McGovern

When Astrid learns that her cancer has returned, she hears about a radical technology called cryopreservation that may allow her to have her body frozen until a future time when–and if–a cure is available. With her boyfriend, Mohit, and her best friend, Chloe, Astrid goes on a road trip in search of that possibility.

That synopsis intrigues me so much. It seems like such an impossible decision. I haven’t heard anyone talk about this book though. If you’ve read it, let me know your thoughts!

That’s all for this month. Next round will be in July.

What have you added to your *To Read* shelf lately??

May TBR

I have a pretty small TBR this month. I’m for sure reading these three, but as far as the rest of the month goes…I’m just going to play things by ear!

Finale by Stephanie Garber

The wait is almost over! This is the last book in the Caraval trilogy & I am SO ready for it!!

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

I’ve heard AMAZING things about this book! My original plan was to read it in June, but I just can’t wait that long.

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

I am no where near prepared for what this book has in store!

What will you be reading in May??
