Find My Next Read Scavenger Hunt

My reading has been a mess lately. All the books I keep picking up are ones that I am apparently not in the mood for. I don’t know what is happening!

I figured I would do this tag and hopefully it will help me! Maybe since I’m not technically picking the book, I’ll want to read it??

I first saw this tag from booksandlala, but it was created by Peter Likes Books.

Grab your favorite book. Go to the acknowlegemdents, and the first name you see, find a book by an author with the same name.

My favorite book is Six of Crows! The first name I saw in the acknowledgements was Sarah. A book by an author with the same name is Havenfall.

Pick something on that cover and find another book with that thing in the title.

On Havenfall I see a moon and that automatically made me think of Bone Crier’s Moon by Kathryn Purdie.

Go to page 50, line 5. Pick a word from that line and find a title with that word in it.

Page 50, Line 5 says “Are you still talking?” Jules skips fast down the deer trail. I decided to pick the word *you* and the book I found was I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

Find a 5 star read with the same colors on the cover.

I’ll Give You the Sun has tons of colors so I just went with one. A green 5 star read was Well Met by Jen DeLuca!

Find a book with the same number of pages.

Well Met has 328! I had to go to Goodreads to help me and turns out I don’t own any books with that exact number. So I’m going to cheat a little and go with 329 pages and that book is Heretics Anonymous by Katie Henry.

Flip open to any page. The first name you see, find a book by an author with who shares that name.

First name I saw was Lucy which led me to picking The Guest List by Lucy Foley.

Find another title with the same number of letters.

The Guest List has 12 letters and so does Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young.

Find a book with a similar cover.

The girl turning her head and looking makes me think of My Lady Jane

Flip to a random page. Point at a word and find that word in a book title on your TBR shelf

I pointed to the word *it* and found Call It What You Want on my TBR shelf.

Read!

Looks Like I am going to be reading Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer next!

I’m actually really happy with how this turned out! I LOVE Brigid Kemmerer’s writing so fingers crossed this helps me get out of this weird mood!

What is the next book you plan to read??

Mid Year Book Freakout Tag | 2020

Hi friends! Today I’m going to be summing up my reading for the first half of the year! Some of these questions have multiple answers because I couldn’t just pick one!

This tag was created by Ely and Chami

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2020?

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
I cannot even begin to explain my feelings for this book. It was incredible and beautiful. It has been a while since I’ve been so deeply invested in a book. Addie LaRue deserves every star in the galaxy. EVERY. SINGLE. STAR.

BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2020?

Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend
This is the second book in the Nervermoor middle grade series. I am so happy I decided to read these books. They are perfection. I love Morrigan and all of her friends she makes along the way. I’m not so patiently waiting for the third book’s release later this year!

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVENT READ YET, BUT WANT TO.

-Bone Crier’s Moon by Kathryn Purdie
-Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli & Aisha Saeed
-Incendiary by Zoraida Córdova

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE HEAR.

-Fable by Adrienne Young
-Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer
-Well Played by Jen DeLuca

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

Bent Heavens by Daniel Kraus
Y’all I hated this book. I rarely say that, but wow this was bad. I went in thinking it was going to be this cool sci fi about aliens, but ummmm that wasn’t the case. Read my full review here if you want! 😬

BIGGEST SURPRISE

The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James
This book marked my first time reading an adult thriller so I wasn’t really expecting much out of it. I was definitely not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I stayed up late reading and it truly scared the hell out of me! Definitely one of my favorite reads of the year!

FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (debut or new to you)

Rory Power author of Wilder Girls & Burn Our Bodies Down
I have read both of her books recently and wow! She comes up with the most bizarre ideas and somehow makes them work. I will read everything she publishes.

NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

Alex from It Sounded Better in My Head
He is the bad boy with a huge heart. I absolutely adored him!

NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER

Rev from More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer
This is kind of cheating because Rev isn’t really a new character to me. I met him last year while reading Letters to the Lost, but this year I read his book! Rev is a freaking gem. He has such a big heart and he will always be there for anyone who needs help. I love him!!

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

The Lucky Ones by Liz Lawson
I didn’t cry necessarily, but it did break my heart. This was about a girl who was the sole survivor of a school shooting.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace
This story takes you on a wild adventure and I loved every second of it. This was actually my first read of 2020 so it made me super happy that I started off the year with a book that I adored.

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOIGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR

-Felix Ever After by Kacen Calendar!
-Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust (Fairyloot edition)

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

-Summer of Salt by Katrina Leno
-House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
-Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron

The Super Random Book Tag

This super fun tag was created by Headoverbooks!

Pick a color that matches your emotion when you read your favorite book
One of my favorite books is Caraval and when I read it I am happy! So I guess yellow would best fit that.

Best book to movie adaptation
Don’t drag me for this, but I really love the Twilight movies!

Name your favorite song at the moment and pick a book that you feel matches the song
My favorite song right now (and of all time) is This Is Me from The Greatest Showman movie. The song is all about loving who you are no matter what other people say or think. The best book to match that is definitely The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid!

Name a book that put you in a reading slump
I haven’t been in a slump in a while so I cant really answer this!

Name a book that you spent way too much money on
I feel attacked by this question! Hahaha 😂 For real though, I spent way too much money on the original hardcover of Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I do not regret it at all though.

Name a book that you really want but you don’t have the money to buy it
I desperately want the UK hardcovers of the Caraval series. Every time I see them for sell somewhere, they are always way out of my price range. Maybe one day!

Name a group of friends (Can’t be from Harry Potter)
Natalie, Lucy and Zach from It Sounded Better in My Head by Nina Kenwood

Name your top three favorite books
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Name a book that you want to add to you never ending TBR
Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust. It comes out in May and I cant wait to get my hands on it.

What popular book have you not read yet
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas! I’ll get to it sometime soon…hopefully!

Name a movie/tv adaptation that you binged
Hmmm probably You on Netflix!

Name a book that gives you all the feels
The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. Ugh it shattered my heart.

Name a book that is sweet but is sour in some way
Finale by Stephanie Garber. It’s absolutely fantastic but it’s the last in the series so it’s sad.

Name a book that you have been spoiled for
I was kind of spoiled for the Shatter Me series while I was in the middle of reading the first book.

I’d love to know your answers to this tag!

AIDAN from The Illumiae Files…if you call them a villain!

💚 All I Want for Christmas is You – What book do you most hope to see under your Christmas tree?
I gave my family a huge list of books they could choose from but the one I most hope to see is probably LIFEL1K3 by Jay Kristoff!

❤️ Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – Name a character that overcomes major obstacles and learns to believe in themselves.
Declan from Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer 🖤

Nice list: Ryn from The Bone Houses

The Kids Quotient by Helen Hoang. The romance is perfect!

💚 It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year – Which holiday themed book do you use to spread the Christmas joy?
I don’t really read many holiday stories but I did really enjoy The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand!

This or That Book Tag

Hi everyone!

It’s time for another tag! This one in particular is pretty old, but who cares right? Tags are fun to do and you can learn a lot about a bookworm from them.

The creator of the tag is Tea and Paperbacks, but I don’t believe their blog is public anymore. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

➸ READING ON THE COUCH OR IN BED?
Unless I am listening to an audiobook, I always read in bed!

➸ MALE MAIN CHARACTER OR FEMALE MAIN CHARACTER?
Either one is fine. I really like dual POVs so let’s go with that answer.

➸ SWEET SNACKS OR SALTY SNACKS WHILE READING?
I rarely eat while reading. I’m a little too scared to get my book dirty. If i had to pick though, it would definitely be sweet!

➸ TRILOGIES OR QUARTETS?
Neither. Hahaha! Obviously both are fine, but I really love duologies!

➸ FIRST PERSON POV OR THIRD PERSON POV?
Oh 100% first person. I like being in the mind of the character.

➸ READING AT NIGHT OR IN THE MORNING?
I am an extreme night owl. Like as I am typing this, it is 2:13 AM. I feel like I’m way more focused and productive at night so that is when I get most of my reading done.

➸ LIBRARIES OR BOOKSTORES?
Okay so I use my library for ebooks and audiobooks, but I don’t ever actually go into the building. I don’t really go to bookstores either though. The closest store to me is 30 minutes away and I can’t drive. So I guess my answer is actually online bookstores.

➸ BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH OR BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU CRY?
Cry. I love a good emotional read. One that will completely destroy my heart.

➸ BLACK BOOK COVERS OR WHITE BOOK COVERS?
Black 🖤

➸ CHARACTER DRIVEN OR PLOT DRIVEN STORIES?
Character driven, hands down.

Have you done this tag?? If you have, leave the link below! I’d love to see your answers!

Autumn Book Tag

Hi everyone!

Autumn has finally made its appearance here in Kentucky…thank gosh. To celebrate the change of seasons, we are going to do a book tag!

I’m not sure who the original creator of this tag is. If you happen to know, please fill me in so I can give them credit!

🍂 What is your favorite thing about autumn?

Literally EVERYTHING! I love the cool weather, the fashion, the smells…it’s the best season!

🍂 What book reminds you of your school days?

I feel like this question could be answered in two ways. I’m going to go with books that I associate with certain grades. Tales of Fourth Grade Nothing reminds me of elementary school, Twilight reminds me of middle school and The Great Gatsby reminds me of high school!

🍂 What cover reminds you of autumn?

All of the orange on the Illiminae cover screams fall time!

🍂 What is your favorite horror or Halloween story?

This was hard to pick, but I’ll have to say House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig. It’s not strictly horror but it did freak me out quite a bit!

🍂 What is your favorite horror or Halloween film?

Halloweentown for sure! I have seen it more times than I can count. Also the TV show Supernatural is PERFECT for this time of year!

🍂 What fall release are you looking forward to?

Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw! I have already read the ARC, but I can’t wait to get my hands on the beautiful finished copy.

🍂 What autumn movie release are you looking forward to?

Hmmmm. I have two…Last Christmas because I want the holiday vibes & Charlie’s Angels because Kristin Stewart!

🍂 What are three books you plan to read this autumn?

The three that are on the top of my TBR are Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young and Five Dark Fates by Kendare Blake!

What do you like about Autumn?? What are some of your favorite Halloween movies?

Lover Book Tag

Hi everyone!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been constantly listening to Taylor Swift’s new album! Lover is everything I wanted plus more. Each song is beautiful & a breath of fresh air. 💕

Today I am going to be doing the Lover Book Tag! This tag & the graphics were originally created by Mari from Musings of a Book Girl! You should definitely go check out her answers to these questions!

Incase you were wondering, yes I did listen to the album while writing this post! Right now I am obsessed with Afterglow & London Boy so I have them on repeat!

Let’s get started! 💘

I’m going to answer this question a little different. I love Six of Crows with my entire heart, it’s one of my favorite books of all time. Sometimes I wish I could forget all about it though, just so I can experience the story for he first time again!

Mara from Girl Made of Stars! Not only does she have a heartbreaking past, but she goes through a lot in this book.

Alex and Henry for life!

Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu is the first that came to my mind! This book is insanely powerful & so important. I honestly feel like every young adult should have read this book.

I feel as though Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia has wonderful anxiety representation!

She’s the Worst by Lauren Spieller! No spoilers, but ahhh so cute!

This is probably cheating because I haven’t read this book yet, but oh well. I’m going to pick The Grace Year by Kim Liggett. If you read the synopsis, you will totally understand why I am going with this answer.

I’m going to have to go with Six of Crows again because Kaz & Inej were meant to be together…forever & always!

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer. This book heavily deals with grief, guilt and anger. I can’t even begin to explain how difficult this was to read at times. The characters pain felt unbelievably realistic. It was heartbreaking. There were definitely a couple times when I had to put the book down because I needed a breather. It gets pretty dark not going to lie.

The book that started my love of reading & fandom, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer!

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah follows two sisters living in France during World War II. This book is one of my all time favorites, but gosh it completely broke me.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. I’m still not over it. 💔

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I absolutely loved this book! It was a roller coaster ride of emotions and I was living for it the entire time!

Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake! This is a middle grade about a girl realizing she likes girls. It’s so beautiful and I wish more people would read it!

AIDAN from The Illuminae Files! They do such awful things, but you literally can’t help but love the character anyway!

There’s absolutely no way I can pick just one! So here’s a few: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Alberttalli, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Sadie by Courtney Summers.

Evelyn & Harry from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Their friendship means everything to me!

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon might be a weird answer to this question. 😂 Toward the end of the novel is really why I’m choosing it for new beginnings!

That’s it! I absolutely loved this tag. It was a super fun one to do. 💕

Do you like Taylor’s new album? Which song is your favorite? I’d LOVE to know!

Rapid Fire Book Tag

Hi everyone!

To be honest, this isn’t what I was planning to post today. I had a really fun idea for a post but things just didn’t go as planned soooo here we are. I’m definitely going to try to make that idea happen, but for now please enjoy this super quick & easy book tag!

EBOOK OR PHYSICAL BOOK?

Physical book for sure! I like ebooks but it takes me longer to get through them.

PAPERBACK OR HARDCOVER?

Hardcover. I do love a floppy paperback though!

ONLINE OR IN-STORE SHOPPING?

Online, but not by choice. The only place to buy books in the town I live in is at Walmart and ummm their selection sucks…

TRILOGIES OR SERIES?

Either one is fine!

HEROES OR VILLAINS?

While I love heroes, I’m going to have to choose villains! I love getting so see their backstory as to why they are evil.

A BOOK THAT YOU WANT EVERYONE TO READ?

Can I just pick the entire Illuminae Files? Those books are incredible!

RECOMMEND AN UNDERRATED AUTHOR.

Ashley Herring Blake. She is the author of Girl Made of Stars & Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World. Go check out her books!

THE LAST BOOK YOU FINISHED?

Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson. It was okay.

WEIRDEST THING YOU’VE EVER USED AS A BOOKMARK?

An almond! 😂

Absolutely yes! A lot of the books I own are used.

TOP THREE FAVORITE GENRES?

Fantasy, contemporary and science fiction.

BORROW OR BUY?

Buy!

CHARACTERS OR PLOT?

I love character driven stories!

LONG OR SHORT BOOKS?

In the middle? Like 350 pages is perfect to me!

NAME THE FIRST THREE BOOKS YOU THINK OF.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo , Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian and This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH OR CRY?

Cry. I really like emotional roller coasters okay?!

OUR WORLD OR FICTIONAL?

Fictional, duh!

AUDIOBOOKS: YES OR NO?

YES! My reading year has been full of audiobooks.

DO YOU EVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER?

Don’t we all?

BOOK TO MOVIE OR BOOK TO TV?

Book to TV probably. I don’t watch a ton of movies, but I am a TV nerd.

A MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU PREFERRED TO THE BOOK?

The Fault in Our Stars . The book did nothing for me, but I thought the movie was really good!

SERIES OR STANDALONES?

I really like standalones but sometimes I want more so I’m going to have to pick series.

That’s it! I feel like I’ve done a lot of book tags lately & for that I am sorry! I’ll better in the next couple posts. Promise!
