Series I Won’t Be Finishing

Hi everyone!

Before I get into today’s post, I just wanted to mention that I am hosting an international giveaway over on my Instagram! One winner will choose $15 worth of books from Book Depository. Go see my IG post for details!

Today I am going to share some series that I’ve decided to DNF. Some of these have ended, some are ongoing, but for one reason or another, I will not finish them out.

If some of these books are your favorites, I am so sorry! Please remember that everyone has different reading tastes!

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

Starting of with a bang here. This series is one that I started out loving, but after finishing The Dream Thieves I realized that these books are too slow and confusing for my liking! I am pretty sure this is being made into a TV show & I do think I will enjoy the story more that way.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Earlier this year I finally read Throne of Glass and ended up giving it 3 stars. It wasn’t fantastic, but it wasn’t awful either. At the time I said I was going to continue with the rest of the books, but I have now decided not to. This series is super long and I have so many other books that I want to read instead.

Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare

If you saw my 2019 goals post then you will remember that I wanted to catch up on ALL the Shadowhunter books. Well…I read the first Mortal Instruments trilogy and stopped. I couldn’t get myself to pick up Clockwork Angel. I tried, I really did, but It just didn’t happen. Maybe one day I will pick these books back up, but for the foreseeable future, I am calling it quits.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson

I don’t really have much to say about this one. Sadly, the first book didn’t interest me enough to finish out the trilogy. Super bummed about it too.

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

It truly hurts me to put this one on the list. I was so excited for a new series from these authors, but unfortunately I didn’t love this book as much as I hoped I would. To me, this book was average, nothing really special about it. The ending was intriguing, but I don’t think it was enough to make me want to pick up the second book.

Thornchapel by Sierra Simone

Back in July I read A Lesson in Thorns and was blown away. It was SUPER steamy and eerie. I was planning to pick up the sequel shortly after, but then I heard some not so great things about it. Apparently this series takes a turn that I’m definitely not interested in reading about. So now I have zero plans to continue on.

That’s all…for now! I feel like I am constantly changing my mind about books so I may do another one of these soon.

Have you decided to quit any series lately??

  1. I am currently listening to the Raven Cycle books, currently on Blue Lily, Lily Blue and I can totally see why these would not be to everyones tastes. They aren’t bad per say, but I can say that I don’t think I would read the actual books, I’m so far invested that I feel as though I need to figure out what in the world happens with Blue and Gansey lol.

As far as Throne of Glass, I love that series! However, it is a lot of books to read if you don’t love it. However, they DO get better as the series progresses!

I really enjoyed the Mortal Instruments, but my favorites were The Infernal Devices. Those books are really good, and you don’t necessarily have to read one to read another since they are on different timelines.

I need to make a post like this. I DNFed a couple of popular books as well lol

    1. I listened to the audiobooks for the The Raven Cycle too & they are great, but I just couldn’t get into the story that much! I have heard that the Throne of Glass series gets a lot better. Maybe one day I will try them again. 😀

  2. I won’t be finishing The Raven Cycle or the Shadowhunter books either. I got as far as the Dream Thieves as well, but I found that I didn’t like any of the characters that much, which was a shame, because that’s what a lot of people seemed to love so much. And I read the first Shadowhunter book and wasn’t overly blown away by it, so I haven’t been that interested to read any more.
    Great post! 🙂

  3. I have no interest in The Raven Cycle and I haven’t picked up Shadowhunters since I was a teen. I pushed myself through Throne of Glass. It got better as the series progressed but it’s just alright.

  4. GIRL ME TOO ON THE RAVEN CYCLE. I finally gave up after book two myself. I don’t even know if I’ll get to Aurora Rising, let alone its sequels, lol.

    1. Apparently a lot of people feel the same way I do about The Raven Cycle! I saw in your videos that you tried reading Aurora Rising a few times. I hope you can get through it one day because I would love to know your thoughts!
