Synopsis via Goodreads:
A summer read about first love, feminism, and ice cream.
Summer in Sand Lake isn’t complete without a trip to Meade Creamery—the local ice cream stand founded in 1944 by Molly Meade who started making ice cream to cheer up her lovesick girlfriends while all the boys were away at war. Since then, the stand has been owned and managed exclusively by local girls, who inevitably become the best of friends. Seventeen-year-old Amelia and her best friend Cate have worked at the stand every summer for the past three years, and Amelia is “Head Girl” at the stand this summer. When Molly passes away before Amelia even has her first day in charge, Amelia isn’t sure that the stand can go on. That is, until Molly’s grandnephew Grady arrives and asks Amelia to stay on to help continue the business…but Grady’s got some changes in mind…
I am so happy I decided to pick this book up! It was so much fun & just what I needed. It was the perfect read to start off the summer! Honestly, forever wishing I had a place like Meade Creamery in my hometown!
In Stay Sweet we follow Amelia who is about to start her summer job at Meade Creamery. When she finds out that the owner Molly Meade has died, she thinks the ice cream shop will close. That is until Molly’s great nephew takes over & he has some plans in store…
This book was everything I didn’t even know I needed. I went into this expecting a fluffy romance & got something completely different. Stay Sweet is about believing in yourself. It’s about putting your heart & soul into something you are passionate about.
I loved learning about the history of Meade Creamery. Through diary entries we get to know Molly & see how she started the ice cream stand back in 1944. In present time we see that things haven’t really changed since then. I’m super nerdy so I loved learning all the ends & outs of the business!
I love Amelia with all of my heart. I see a lot of myself in her. Her growth throughout this book is incredible. She goes from being unsure about everything to taking charge.
If you are looking for a book with a swoon worthy romance, this probably isn’t the one for you. While there is a little romance, it’s not the main focus of the book. Stay Sweet focuses on the ice cream shop & how it is going to stay open after the death of it’s owner.
In my opinion, the ending was perfect. I don’t want to spoil anything but it has me wishing there was another book set in this town!
I also want to mention that I read Stay Sweet via audiobook. It was narrated by Bailey Carr & she did such a fantastic job.
I loved this book way more than expected to! Like I mentioned above, I did listen to the audio, but you can bet you’re stars I had to purchase a physical copy! I’m looking forward to a reread very soon!
